The Big Apple saw yet another violent weekend with multiple shootings across the city.

On Sunday, New York police officers took down a man who opened fire at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. Authorities said the gunman opened fire into the air as hundreds of people gathered for a Christmas concert.

“And it was one loud burst of sound after the other, after the other, after the other and then all of a sudden I’m seeing people screaming and saying it’s a shooter,” stated witness Judy Romer. It’s somebody with a gun and he’s shooting into the crowd, I thought this was it.”

The unidentified suspect also began shooting at police when they arrived. Authorities returned fire, in turn, hitting the suspect who was rushed to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials also said two guns and a can of gas were recovered from the scene. Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were injured.

Officials noted the shooters motive remains unknown as of now, but they said it might have been a suicide mission. The investigation remains ongoing.

Meanwhile, a shooting erupted outside of a Brooklyn public housing complex Saturday night. Four people were injured as a result.

The victims were between the ages of 21 to 38 and were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. All of the victims are expected to survive.

Authorities said it’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but nearby residents said they suddenly heard multiple shots in the street. Police are still searching for any suspects.

Additionally, a shooting inside a Long Island bodega left one person dead and three others severely injured. Gunfire broke out Saturday night, leaving two of the surviving victims in serious condition and one in critical condition. The owner of the bodega was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

As of now, the shooter remains at large. A motive for the crime has not yet been established, but police currently believe the incident to a be a robbery gone wrong.

New York City is about to hit a 14 year high in shootings with around 1,700 gun violence victims recorded in the city as of last week.
