Police are faced with just stopping oil protesters disrupting the PGA Travelers Championship [VIDEOS]

At the 2024 Travelers Championship, golfers Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim ran into an unexpected obstacle on the 72nd hole when a group of protesters disrupted the event by dousing the green with smoke bombs. The police and security quickly intervened, containing the situation and removing the protesters from the pitch, all while the passionate fans passionately expressed their support for the players with chants such as “USA” and “ass”.

Despite the brief interruption and remnants of white and red dust on the green, play continued as Scheffler, Kim and Akshay Bhatia struggled to finish their fourth rounds. The rules officials made the call to continue play, ultimately allowing Scheffler to nail a birdie putt inches short of the hole. Meanwhile, Kim, trailing by one stroke on the scheduled final hole, made a crucial birdie to force a playoff with Scheffler, a seasoned five-time PGA Tour champion this season.

In response to the unforeseen circumstances, the PGA Tour made the decision to create a new playoff hole, starting at the same 18th hole, to ensure a level playing field for all competitors and prevent any lingering debris from marring the surface launch
