President Joe Biden's first press secretary thinks his son Hunter isn't helping his father's affairs by speaking out in public.
Jen Psaki, now MSNBC host, lamented that Hunter Biden's surprise press conference last week may have done more to hurt Biden's re-election effort. The stunt came after the younger Biden defied a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee and refused to testify behind closed doors, choosing instead to mount an outdoor platform to complain about his attack.
Psaki thought the White House probably wishes the president's son would “stop speaking in public.”
In an appearance on “Meet The Press” Sunday morning, host Kristen Welker asked the former press secretary about last week's “surprise press conference.”

“If you're sitting in the White House right now, you're like, 'Please, Hunter Biden, we know your father loves you.' Please stop speaking in public,” Psaki replied.
“It's not helpful for any of them to be out there,” he added. “But at the same time, the president loves his son. This takes precedence over anything else.”
During his comments, Hunter Biden claimed that his father was “not financially involved” in his business, and stated that “there is no evidence that it didn't happen.”

“Let me be as clear as possible: My father was not involved financially in my business, not as a practicing lawyer. Not as a member of the board of Burisma, not in my association with a private Chinese businessman , not my investment or overseas, and certainly not as an artist,” he said in his rant from outside the US Capitol.
“They belittled my recovery and tried to dehumanize me in order to embarrass my father who has dedicated his whole life to public service,” added the president's son. “For six years I've been the target of Trump's relentless strike team. 'Where's Hunter?' Well, here's my answer. I'm here.”
Biden was immediately criticized for his rant and former President Donald Trump joined the stack during a speech in Iowa.
“You saw Hunter today, right?” Trump told supporters gathered in Coralville that day.
“He went to the wrong place. He went to the Senate instead of the Chamber”, joked the former president.
“Everybody's like, 'Where's Hunter?' Look, it's always, 'Where's Hunter?'” Trump continued, adding, “What a two-tier justice system we have.”

On Sunday, Psaki continued his assessment of the situation by pointing to comments made earlier during a panel discussion on NBC News, stressing that “the president loves his son.”
“This takes precedence over anything else. This is compelling. I'm thinking of the woman in your focus group who was talking about family. She loves her son. She loves her family. She's concerned about her mental health,” Psaki said.
However, he went back on his initial reaction, telling Welker, “But yeah, the White House would like him to probably leave right now.”
