MSNBC's Joy Reid was credited with “gaslighting at its finest” as she sparked a “universal backlash” regarding coverage of former President Donald Trump's subsequent assassination attempt.
“And people are concerned and expressing concern that we will not be the keepers of the memory.”
The outlet, often referred to as “MSDNC,” may have pulled “Morning Joe” from the air Monday morning in a move that raised suspicions about the co-hosts' abilities to avoid stepping on a rake, but they didn't go away. shun of his other flamethrowers for the live panel coverage of the Republican National Convention.
Alongside Rachel Maddow, Ari Melber, Jen Psaki and Nicolle Wallace, Reid lived up to her reputation on Monday as she expressed her “fear” about how her corporate media cohorts might go beyond the rhetoric divisive and unfounded.
“And people are worried and express their concern that we will not be the guardians of the memory. And that we're going to allow Donald Trump as he is, you know, bathed in the glory and the greatness of his party, to be rewritten as a hero and a victim,” he said at one point in the coverage.
The shot prompted former cop and commentator Brandon Tatum to say: “Gaslighting at its best. That's how crazy these people are. Joy Reid says Trump shouldn't be allowed to play the victim after being shot “.

Taking issue with the political capital made by the president's death blow, Reid lamented, “I will say that the kind of universal reaction that I'm getting, whether it's civilian or, you know, professional… It's really a deep concern and a lack of confidence in us, not at this table or in us at MSNBC, but in us as the media in general.”
“And the fear that what will happen now is that the Republican Party will do what it does. They are in full campaign. The convention started today,” he continued, “but the media will agree to try to convince people that the things they've been experiencing for the past five or six years didn't happen. That the greatest purveyor and promoter of political violence, you really know, since anybody can remember, since George Wallace, I think, we haven't experienced this kind of incitement to open violence, you know, or kind of lux- with the idea of violence”.
“It's not something we're used to in American politics anymore. Then we had to get used to this being a thing,” attempted “The ReidOut” host.
Reid, meanwhile, featured prominently among the talking heads who had been called out for his own rhetoric, which is believed to have led to Trump's assassination attempt in the first place.
Rats on social media that had the public begging to at least be Removed on MSNBC, included her referring to the president as Adolf Hitler and making scaremongering about a policy plan the GOP leader had claimed was not his.
“Yes, Hitler, the White House, we keep him out. We keep Project 2025 out, that's all I care about,” he said in an example from the week before the assassination attempt.
Still, before explaining how he felt citizens openly carrying AR-15s at the 2016 convention near its release was intended as “a way to threaten us,” Reid placed that reporting on Trump as anything other than the left's demonized version of him was somehow a “rewrite”.
“These people who are the most vulnerable to not only the things he's done, but the things he promises to do, and that this is going to happen without a guardian saying, 'Wait, stop,' and the media accepting this rewrite . . . And the people I've been talking to don't accept the rewrite,” he said, earning more criticism on social media.
