A domestic violence call took an even more violent turn when a San Antonio police officer was shot and wounded early Sunday morning.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, the incident happened on the North Side, specifically in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive.

Responding to a 911 call involving a domestic violence situation around 3:15 a.m., the officer entered an apartment alone and was met with a hail of bullets.

The officer, who remains unidentified, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. She immediately underwent emergency surgery and her condition is currently unknown.

Upon arriving at the scene, which was an apartment complex, officers encountered a woman who claimed to have been assaulted by her boyfriend.

The boyfriend was discovered lying in bed, ominously accompanied by a rifle. Without warning, he began shooting, and the officers were forced to defend themselves, engaging in a shootout, Chief McManus confirmed.

The officers quickly retreated from the apartment, while the armed suspect barricaded himself inside.

A standoff ensued, lasting several hours, until the SWAT team entered. However, they discovered a sad scene: the alleged shooter was found dead.

The chief added that it is still unclear if the suspect committed suicide or if his death was the result of the officers returning fire.

“According to multiple law enforcement sources, the suspect who shot a San Antonio police officer with a rifle this morning is a Venezuelan illegal alien who was apprehended by the Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, TX , last November and was released to the United States with his next court date in April 2026.

San Antonio police officers were responding to a domestic violence call shortly after 3 a.m., according to sources. When they entered, Jorge Chacon-Gutiérrez, 25, was lying in bed with a rifle and opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire and then retreated. Chacón-Gutiérrez is now dead, it is not clear if it is from a return fire or if he committed suicide.

Fortunately, the woman who initially raised the alarm, also in her 20s, suffered relatively minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
