Nikki Haley is confident she will be able to beat Trump in South Carolina despite a MASSIVE deficit

They say “hope springs eternal,” but Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is taking that old axiom to its limits.

The former South Carolina governor trails former President Donald Trump by an overwhelming 30.5 points (Trump, 49.3%; Haley, 18.8%), according to the RealClearPolitics polling average in Haley’s home state, but still thinks she will win.

“Get used to this face, I’m not going anywhere,” Haley told attendees at a town hall in Iowa on Friday. “Our goal was, I’m trying to, one, earn your trust, earn your vote.”

“The way this is going to happen is this is not 2016 all over again,” he continued.

He laid out his perceived path to victory.

“If you realize, if you don’t make it to the debate stage, you’re pretty much out,” he explained. “We started with 12 candidates. The first debate was of 8 candidates. The second debate was of 7 candidates. The last debate was of 5 candidates. This debate next month, it’s December 6th in Alabama, I expect there to be 3 candidates on stage.”

“So going into Iowa, we’re going to see 3 to 4 people fighting for Iowa,” he predicted. “A couple of people will fall, and then we’ll go to New Hampshire and then we’ll fight for Granite Staters. Then more people will fall, and then I’ll go head-to-head with Trump in my home state of South Carolina and we’ll take it.”

Easy-easy, right?

Well, not if reactions to his plan are any indication of his home-state advantage.

“Not one to make political predictions, but if there was ever a time to make an exception, this would be it,” one user told X. “Nikki Haley will finish THIRD in her home state, at which point the Your campaign will disappear before Super Tuesday.”

Ron DeSantis may currently trail Haley by a little more than eight points in South Carolina (DeSantis, 10.5%), but according to the Associated Presssupporters of one of Haley’s key “dropouts,” South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, are now throwing their support behind the Florida governor.

“Ron DeSantis has picked up 10 endorsements in South Carolina from former backers of Sen. Tim Scott’s presidential campaign, support that the Florida governor hopes can bolster his strength in the South’s first primary state as the GOP field continues 2024. to consolidate,” AP reported Friday.

“With a total of 68 endorsements of DeSantis from South Carolina elected officials, he has more than any other presidential candidate has announced, his campaign said,” according to the outlet.

“Tim Scott supporters are switching to DeSantis,” noted one user on X.

Some in X believe Haley knows she can’t beat Trump, and never intended to.

“Neocon Nikki mouse is on for VP. Always was,” said one user. “This is gas lighting.”
