Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dungy said the NFL's obsession with Taylor Swift is a turnoff for fans and is “taking away” from the product on the field.
The Super Bowl-winning coach who now plies his trade as an analyst for NBC commented on the league's infatuation with the pop music megastar who has had a highly publicized relationship with tight end Travis Kelce Kansas City Chiefs.
Fox News caught up with Dungy ahead of Saturday's annual Hula Bowl College Football All-Star Game and asked the former head coach about the so-called “Taylor Swift” effect, something which has turned the stomachs of many non-fans. enjoys having his football mixed with sensational celebrity romance.

“I think we're always going to have sports in some form or fashion, some people are disenchanted with it,” Dungy said.
“That's what disenchants people with the sport now,” he added. “There are many things outside. Entertainment value and different things. Eliminating what actually happens on the field.”
Swift's connection with Kelce has seen him attend one of the Chiefs games, many of which are televised nationally with the team as the defending Super Bowl champions, and on Saturday night, he appeared during the broadcast of the NFL wild card game on the Peacock streaming service.
During the contest, which was easily won by the home team in frigid temperatures, cameras often cut to Swift watching the game from the cozy comfort of a luxury suite at Arrowhead Stadium.

Swift's love interest hauled in 7 passes for 71 yards in the Chiefs' 26-7 rout of a South Florida team that was clearly out of its element in the brutal Midwest winter weather.
Kelce's performance on the field this year has been far less than his normal superhuman self, as the once unstoppable primary target for Chiefs tight end Patrick Mahomes reached the end zone just 5 times during the 2023 season, a massive drop from the dozen touchdowns he scored. the previous year.
The team's late-season slump coupled with Kelce's subpar numbers have some to compare Swift to Yoko Ono, John Lennon's Japanese girlfriend who was accused of breaking up The Beatles.
The Chiefs are not a good football team and Travis Kelce looks like he should retire. He's been useless the last seven or eight weeks. Pfizer's worthless double shots may have caught him. Either that or Taylor Swift is Yoko Ono's boss. Maybe both.

Another prominent celebrity, Larry the Cable Guy didn't think the NFL's commitment to the “Swifties” was a big deal.
“There's a lot of things in the world to worry about that Taylor Swift is dating or that she's being shown too much on TV,” he said. “I don't agree with some of their politics…that never gets in the way of my entertainment choices.”
With the Chiefs advancing to the playoffs, fans will have to endure at least one more week of her dominating coverage the way “Mr. Pfizer” once did to opponents on the field.
