Early Saturday morning, a three-car collision tragically killed the occupants of one of the vehicles, including Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khryee Jackson. According to a statement issued by authorities, the Dodge Charger was struck while traveling in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and “investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.”
According to the Maryland State Police statement, Jackson was riding in the front seat with his former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel, 23, the driver, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24, the passenger rear seat when they were hit by a silver Infiniti, leaving their car off the road.
Police detailed that “the driver of the silver Infiniti, later identified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George's County. Investigators believe Clingman attempted to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed when it struck the Dodge Charger and then struck the Chevrolet Impala. The Charger subsequently left the right side of the roadway and struck several tree stumps where the vehicle came to rest.”
While neither Clingman, his two passengers, nor the driver of the Impala were said to be injured, first responders said Jackson and Hazel died at the scene with Lytton succumbing to his injuries after being transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.
In response to the incident, statements of sympathy, support and in memory of Jackson were released that included Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf saying, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Khyree's death.”
“Khyree had a very bright future ahead of him as a player,” they added, “and it was clear that he was dedicated to being a tremendous person who made a positive difference in people's lives.”
Similarly, the team released its own statement that read: “We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson's death following an overnight car accident. As we work to gather more information, we have spoken with Khyree's family and have offered support to the Minnesota Vikings. We have also communicated the news to Vikings players, coaches and staff and offered counseling for those in need of emotional support.”
“Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident,” the team added.

As others who knew Jackson and were touched by his life also offered their own words to pay tribute, Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell reflected similarly, saying : “I am absolutely overwhelmed by this news. Khyree brought an infectious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his colleagues to him. In our short time together , it was clear that Khryee would become a great professional soccer player, but what was most impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him.”
“I'm speechless,” O'Connell added. “My heart goes out to Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches.”
