Cherilus, who was a first-round pick in 2008, played his first career with the Detroit Lions before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2013.
His five-year, $35 million contract with the Colts made him the highest-paid right tackle in the league at the time.
However, his time in Indianapolis only lasted two seasons and he eventually played his final two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 2017.
The arrest marks a controversial moment for Cherilus, whose NFL career showed significant promise. His actions during the flight have resulted in widespread media coverage and scrutiny, adding to the challenges the league has faced in recent years.
