New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called on Congress to establish stricter border regulations to keep illegal migrants out of the country.
Hochul, notably, expressed concern that masses of people from various parts of the world would arrive and seek asylum, with a significant number of them ending up homeless on the streets of New York.
The Empire State governor blasted Biden’s open-borders policy during an appearance on CBS’ “Face The Nation.”
“But it’s surprising that a trillion dollars isn’t enough,” Brennan noted. “I want to ask you also about the other crisis that you’ve been alarming about, it’s not the tension due to migrants. There were no border provisions in that congressional bill that just passed. And I know you’ve said you had to manage without help from Washington What would you ask Congress to do in the next 45 days?
“Well, shame on President McCarthy and the Republicans in Congress, including the nine from New York State who complain like crazy about migrants, but refuse to work with President Biden and come up with a sensible border strategy.” Hochul said. “It can be done. This can be done in a bipartisan way, comprehensive immigration reform…”
“What exactly do you want?” Brennan asked.
“Well, we want them to have a limit on who can cross the border,” he said. “It’s too open right now. People coming from all over the world are coming in, just saying they need asylum, and most of them seem to be ending up on the streets of New York and that’s a real problem for in New York City. One hundred and twenty-five thousand newcomers and they’re paying us.”
“We are always very proud of the fact that New York has the Statue of Liberty in our harbor,” he continued. “We are one of the most diverse places on earth because of our welcoming nature and it is in our DNA to welcome immigrants. But there must be limits. And Congress must put more controls on the border and not on this budget threat, threat of closure. We talk about eliminating positions for the Border Patrol, well, we actually need to double or quadruple those numbers. So get back to work and do your job.”
On Thursday, Hochul was on CNN, where he said New York has “reached our capacity.” He then called for “other areas to embrace these people.”
“I will be very clear about the values of New Yorkers, we have always been a place that has welcomed immigrants,” Hochul said. “So, we’re always going to be this place. But it’s also a matter of capacity right now. We’ve been welcoming. We’ve been kind. We’ve been supportive. But we have to point the fact out and make sure that the people who cross the border that they that there are a lot of hotel rooms and services in New York City, we’re at capacity. So we’re asking other areas to take those people in. But we’re not going to compromise who we are as a state with the Statue of Liberty in the our port. So that’s what I want to be clear about. That’s important. We’re going to keep that. But we just need a brake right now to help us handle the people that have already come and let people know that it’s not like it was a year ago. We’re at capacity. But getting people out of shelters is our number one priority, period.”
This is a major turnaround for a New York governor who said in 2021 of illegal immigrants that “we want them to come here,” adding, “You’re welcome here.”
THE GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK IS FUCKING MIGRANTS
In December 2021, New York Governor Kathy Hochul invited all migrants to come to New York.
He welcomed them with open arms, citing the welcome message from the Statue of Liberty touting the state’s sanctuary status.
