Activist Colin Kaepernick has long maintained that he would like to return to the NFL after his knee controversy, but his desire to play football may clash with the offer he is being offered.
New Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said USA TODAY Sports that would be willing to have Kaepernick on their coaching staff.
“If that was the path I was going to take, I think it would be tremendous,” he said. “He would be an extraordinary coach if that was the path he chose.”
The coach revealed that he discussed returning to the game as a non-player in January, but the former San Francisco 49ers player turned civil rights activist has yet to make a decision.
“Yeah, we've talked about it a little bit. It's being considered. He was out of the country. He said he'd get back to me. We haven't reconnected since. That was earlier, earlier this year.”
It's possible Kaepernick is holding out because he's still looking for a player position, but considering he hasn't been on the field in seven years, it seems unlikely that such an offer will be made.
X users had a lot to say about the story:
Why would you want this guy on your staff?

You got to be kidding me man Kap try to be Coach Herbert….

That would literally be the dumbest thing the Chargers could do right now…
Big distraction and why would Kaep play a slave owner? He literally said the combine and shooting was like the slave trade….

He will hold out for more money and want approval to kneel or add some other condition. He doesn't want the coaches' salary unless it's the head coach's money

He is literally the definition of poison in the water. If this actually happens, you will see a decrease in the base of charger fans.
Kneeling for the US national anthem should be an automatic ban from all US sports. period

I'm a Chiefs fan, and there's no way this is helpful for the Chargers. So on that side I like it
But CK is just a terrible, dishonest, evil person, and for that matter, I don't think anyone should be entertained by doing a sympathy job for him.

“Is he thinking about it?”
HE ASKED TO BE ON TEAM FOR 5 YEARS AND HE DIDN'T SAY YES???
— CLEAR (@YaBoiClear) August 14, 2024
I stand with everyone in America when I say…if they hire this man, I will make it my duty to root for every damn team to absolutely destroy them. I want Ray Lewis to hit every play on this team. Kaepernick is a cancer to the NFL. He did not kneel for anyone but himself
