The UK’s biggest coffee chain Costa is facing a massive backlash and a new boycott after it used an animated image of a mastectomy-scarred figure to celebrate “inclusion and diversity”.
My favorite coffee company buys I will not drink Costa Coffee until the company apologizes for this strange form of virtue signaling. They know that most mastectomies are done for breast cancer. Desperately underrated ad!😥@CostaCoffee https://t.co/zs9nJ4gcHX

The Daily Mail reports:
The image, which depicts an androgynous-looking character wearing long shorts with scars below each nipple, is taken from a mural designed by the chain for Brighton and Hove Pride last year.
The use of the image on a mobile coffee van used at events around the country was condemned by feminist campaigners and people who had their breasts removed due to cancer.
Tanya Carter, spokeswoman for child protection campaign group Safe Schools Alliance, said: “It’s almost unbelievable that Costa would do something so gross and irresponsible as to use this image.
“Executives clearly have no idea what message this is sending, that irreversible surgery on healthy female breasts should be applauded. Is this really a way to sell coffee?”
Costa, which was dropped by Coca Cola, issued a statement defending the use of the image, stating that “At Costa Coffee we celebrate the diversity of our customers, team members and partners. We want everyone who interacts with us to experience the inclusive environment we create, to encourage people to feel welcome, free and unashamedly proud to be themselves. The mural, in its entirety, shows and celebrates inclusion.”
Feminist writer Julie Bindel told the Mail “I remember stories of when a woman was kicked out of a Costa store (in 2018) because she was discreetly breastfeeding.“.

“We are not allowed to breastfeed, but can you celebrate a woman who has her breasts removed for reasons of social contagion and vanity? It’s absolutely crazy,” Bindel urged, adding: “What’s scary is that actual mastectomy scars are seen as a badge of honor, so cool.”
“This dangerous ideology that you can mix and match with your body by undergoing complex and dangerous surgery is horrible,” Bindel said, adding: “I want to see criminalized surgeons, scientists, those who advocate and benefit from the removal of healthy breasts.”
Images of young women with mastectomy scars are becoming ubiquitous. @CostaCoffee says it’s to celebrate “diversity” and encourage young women to feel “free and unashamedly proud to be themselves.” #BoycottCostaCoffee https://t.co/eZCQNtLRGx

Stephanie Davies-Arai, founder and director of Transgender Trend, an organization that campaigns against the glorification of gender dysphoria and trans surgeries on children, added: “It’s trapped under the Pride flag, being inclusive and celebrating diversity, but you’re actually encouraging kids to believe they have to undergo unnecessary medical treatment that will affect them for the rest of their lives.”
“Companies that want to attract young people portray trans women as cool,” she continued, adding: “This is being pushed on kids as if having major surgery is the same as changing their clothes.”
It’s hard to believe that this is true, but what in God’s name is it @CostaCoffee playing with glamouring the mutilation of young bodies that more than often leads to great regret in later life.
This regressive and yes malignant ideology is propagated by people like #Stone wall must… https://t.co/2X2dZpAwiQ— Mark Whitford 🇬🇧 (@whitford747) July 31, 2023
dear @CostaCoffee
You are promoting the mutilation of healthy young girls.
I hope you are boycotted out of existence.#BoycottCostaCoffee pic.twitter.com/cphbdAkbZ3

Another company currently facing a boycott is shoe manufacturer Dr Martenswho created a special pride shoe featuring a character with mastectomy scars:
I remember when @drmartens they were the footwear of choice for the stylish lesbian of the 89s @projecte_lesbiana? Now it’s ‘Let’s mutilate, sterilize and desex the dirty fornicators! We charge £££! And they call it a party… pic.twitter.com/6q4gHbCR8d

What about all these corporations now celebrating “trans-affirming” body-mutilation surgeries on perfectly healthy girls and young women? The awakening is supposed to be dying, but instead it only gets worse as the audience fights the mind virus. pic.twitter.com/iYIU1qQQlH
