The Nedbank Golf Challenge is currently underway and we have an exciting finale ahead of us.
After three days of intense competition, American golfer Max Homa has emerged as the leader, carding a 69 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead into the final round.
Homa, making his debut in South Africa, dominated the challenging course at Gary Player Country Club, dropping just one shot in 54 holes. He currently sits at 13 under par for the tournament.
Hot on his heels is France’s Matthieu Pavon, who shared the top of the leaderboard with Homa overnight. Pavon shot a 70 on Saturday, carding five birdies and one bogey in his first 14 holes. However, back-to-back dropped shots on the 15th and 16th allowed Homa to skip it.
In contention is the Danish duo of Nicolai Hojgaard and Thorbjorn Olesen, who both shot 69 and are two strokes behind Homa. England’s Dan Bradbury, despite a 71 on Saturday, remains in the mix, just one shot further back.
Homa’s consistency in hitting fairways and solid form with the putter have been key factors in his impressive performance. He got his first eagle on the par-five 10th hole to make up for an earlier bogey. The six-time PGA Tour winner is looking for his first win on the European circuit, which includes several events in Africa.
Meanwhile, England’s Tommy Fleetwood, the two-time defending Nedbank Golf Challenge champion, could only manage a 71 on Saturday, leaving him six shots off the pace.
As we head into the final round, the battle for the title promises to be intense.
