NBA G League player Chance Comanche, 27, was arrested Friday with the help of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office after a warrant was issued from a Sin City court for an alleged kidnapping in the first degree. The player, who according to KLAS had been released from the Sacramento Kings' development team, the Stockton Kings, was the second person arrested in connection with the disappearance of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers.
The outlet reported that Comanche had been in Henderson, Nevada for a Dec. 5 game against the G League Ignite outside Las Vegas, where, according to loved ones, Rodgers was last seen in the early hours of morning of December 6. told KLAS that she “had a good job and would never leave her family at home in Washington state or abandon her dogs that she brought with her to Las Vegas.”
According to the Sacramento Bee,” Comanche starred at Beverly Hills High School and played at Arizona, where he appeared in 60 games between 2015 and 2017. After going undrafted in 2017, Comanche played for the Memphis Hustle and Canton Charge of the G League, Enid Outlaws of the Basketball League and Yeni Mamak Spor of the Turkish Basketball First League.
It was unclear how much time he had spent in the Las Vegas area after the game, but he was known to appear with the team on December 7 when they faced Rip City Remix in Portland, Oregon.
Booked into the Sacramento County Jail, the basketball player was arrested and declared ineligible for bond. The Bee stated that “his felony arrest fell under a provision of the California Penal Code that allowed a peace officer to arrest a person 'accused on a verified complaint … of the commission of any crime in any other state'”.
His arrest came just days after 19-year-old Sakari Harnden was arrested, also facing first-degree kidnapping charges for her alleged involvement in Rodgers' disappearance.
On Thursday, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Diana Sullivan had set Harnden's bond at $500,000 and included the condition of high-level electronic monitoring. Court documents alleged that the 19-year-old had “detained or detained RODGERS against her will, and without her consent, for the purpose of killing … and/or inflicting substantial bodily harm” on the missing woman.
Along with the kidnapping, KLAS reported that Harnden was facing theft charges in a separate and apparently unrelated case after they were alleged to have stolen at least one Rolex. As for the kidnapping case, he was scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on December 28.
As for Comanche, who last played in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 12th, he was expected to appear in Sacramento County Court on Tuesday, December 19th. At the time of this publication, neither the Sacramento Kings, their affiliate, the NBA nor the Department of Justice had issued a statement regarding the player's arrest.
Anyone with information related to Rodgers' disappearance was encouraged to contact Las Vegas Metro Police.
