Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi was subpoenaed Wednesday in a criminal case in California.
Pelosi’s announcement was read to the House by Reading Clerk Tylease Alli and did not specify what the criminal case was about. Pelosi’s husband, Paul, was attacked at home in October 2022.

“This is to formally notify you, pursuant to Rule 8 of the Rules of the House of Representatives, that I, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emeritus and United States Representative for the 11th Congressional District of California, I have received third-party subpoenas from the prosecution and the defendant to produce documents in a criminal case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California,” the statement said.
“After consulting with the office of the general counsel, I have determined that compliance with the subpoenas is consistent with the privileges and rights of the house,” the statement continued. “To the extent required by the production of non-privileged information, responses to subpoenas will be identical. Signed, Yours truly, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emeritus.”
Paul Pelosi was arrested in June 2022 for driving under the influence following a May 2022 crash. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five days in prison, while the vehicle involved in the accident was auctioned switched off.
The congresswoman’s office he said Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News that they will not comment on any legal matters.
Pelosi did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
