Multiple active shooters attack a military base in San Antonio, Texas [VIDEO]

Security forces at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland were involved in a shootout early Saturday morning outside the front gate of the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex, officials said.

JBSA officials confirmed that the incident, which occurred around 4:30 a.m., was off-base, clarifying that it occurred approximately three miles from the JBSA-Lackland base.

Although the situation required security officials to return fire, military personnel assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the facility.

In an official statement, JBSA stressed that the shooters have no apparent links to the military. JBSA did not release details on the number of individuals involved and injuries resulting from the exchange of gunfire.

Initially, the entrance gate to the training annex was closed and traffic was diverted to an alternate entry point north on Ray Ellison Boulevard. However, normal operations and access were restored by 10am

Although JBSA initially labeled the individuals as “active shooters,” the San Antonio Police Department refrained from classifying the event as an active shooter situation, indicating a difference in interpretation of the incident.

It is unclear at this time whether the matter is under investigation by military authorities or the San Antonio Police Department, as no additional information has been made available at this time.
