On Tuesday, MSNBC data reporter Steve Kornacki cast doubt on Democratic Gov. Tim Walz's potential to swing key states as a vice presidential candidate. Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz as her running mate, running against Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.

During his appearance on “Ana Cabrera Reports,” Kornacki compared Walz's 2022 re-election campaign to Joe Biden's 2020 victory in Minnesota.

Kornacki noted that Walz's performance mirrored Biden's, with significant wins in urban areas like Hennepin County and similar losses in rural areas like Stearns County.

Kornacki noted that while Walz's victory in 2022 was similar to Biden's, it also reflected confidence in strong performance in metropolitan areas and substantial losses in rural counties.

He noted that Democratic hopes for Walz to make gains in key states' blue-collar regions may be unrealistic given his track record in Minnesota.

Kornacki also discussed recent polls, which show Harris with a narrow lead over Trump and a slight increase when third-party candidates are included.

He concluded that Walz's track record suggests he may not change the traditional Democratic strategy that relies heavily on urban centers while fighting in more rural areas.
