In a recent segment on Fox News, Martha MacCallum and Kevin O'Leary addressed the economic proposals of 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris, focusing on her plan to limit government control over prices.
MacCallum opened the discussion by questioning the effectiveness of Kamala's approach compared to President Trump's strategies to spur economic growth. “Kevin, it's always good to have you with us. You know, it's right there with what Mark ended up with in terms of what the FTC can do to tell grocery companies and food companies how much they can charge for things that the Supreme Court just dealt with the power of the agencies and the government and trying to limit that, you're going to get a very different message from President Trump about how to stimulate growth in this country. What do you think the American people want to hear? Which one will work?”

O'Leary expressed strong doubts about Kamala's proposal, stating, “This is not going to happen. The government is not going to control the prices of protein, groceries or energy. It has been tried before in countries like the Soviet Union, Korea from the North, Cuba”. He added: “So obviously that's not going to happen. I think what we've seen today, because I've seen, you know, both Harris and Biden together, the first idea of the politics of this pharmaceutical is always a good strategy. It's since the 60s.”
He further criticized Kamala's strategy, saying, “The problem is why it generally doesn't work, is that a lot of Democrats and Republicans work for Big Pharma. It hires hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people, and so this people vote too, and they're, you know, whether they're pharmaceutical reps or doctors or whatever.” O'Leary warned that simply attacking various industries without substantial policy alternatives would not win over voters. “If the strategy is just bash big business, bash energy, bash pharma, bash AG, bash everything, then she's a leftist. Again, she can't win the election.”
O'Leary also questioned Kamala's ability to handle direct media scrutiny, noting: “She just did politics by indicator. She read it from an indicator. She can get an interview from you and others journalists who will really pursue her like they did in 2020 when she went out?has she learned anything about how to deal with it individually that will be where the tire hits the road?
MacCallum agreed with O'Leary's points and emphasized the importance of more detailed policy discussions. “Yes, absolutely. Well, we hope that, and we hope that there will be an opportunity to moderate a debate, to moderate a debate, and to sit down with her, have a town hall, throw some of these questions into the mix.”
