“Something's wrong… I don't think he can call me,” the mother said according to the New York Post. “She's never run away. We're very close. There wasn't a fight either, and an 'I hate you mom, and run away' kind of situation.”
“I didn't fully realize how serious it was. … You always have something going on with teenagers to some degree. But, I mean, she's a very sweet, good-natured girl. So the more time went on , the more the children began to open up [the online relationship]” Merrill noted. “A friend had said she really trusted him. And they're all pretty sure it's where they think it is.”
“I don't have a lot of specifics or details right now. That's the only lead we have is that she was talking to a man online. The police have finally taken her electronics for forensics. So I hope they can find more than I found in 10 hours of digging,” he said according to Fox News.
The mother believes the man was looking after her daughter and did not realize the danger she was in.
“As tips come in, we're evaluating each one on its own merits,” police Lt. David Shackleton said in a statement to KING5. “The Internet is great for many things, but it can also be a dangerous place, especially for children.”
