Morgan Riddle, the partner of American tennis sensation Taylor Fritz, recently came under fire for her social media posts that appeared to poke fun at partner Alexander Zverev and allude to his assault allegations. Riddle took to Instagram on Tuesday to clarify his comments, which were later removed from his Instagram Stories.
Riddle was in attendance at Wimbledon, where she posted several photos of herself. In his post, he lamented the misunderstanding caused by his previous posts and the media hype. She said: “Regarding my stories yesterday, I took them down as soon as I realized the misunderstanding and how they had been blown out of proportion.” He insisted that his posts had nothing to do with off-court incidents and that there was no animosity between anyone.
Riddle's berths came after Fritz's remarkable win over Zverev, which propelled him into the quarterfinals. After the win, Riddle appeared to mock Zverev on his Instagram stories, saying: “When your man wins 4 girls”, a possible reference to allegations that Zverev assaulted a woman in 2020.
Zverev was accused of domestic abuse by his former partner, but the case was settled out of court, with Zverev agreeing to pay fines of approximately $162,000 to the state and about $54,000 to charity. The trial was concluded by a German court in June. Despite the allegations and the settlement, Zverev has consistently maintained his innocence.
