A “decision” appears to have been made with CBS reporting: “Biden tells reporters he has decided how to respond to attack that killed US troops in Jordan.” And Sky News writes: “The moment of no return is approaching” as Biden weighs retaliation for the deaths of soldiers.
In addition, Biden said the White House sees Iran as responsible for supplying the weapons used in the drone attack on the base of Tower 22 along the Jordanian-Syrian border, an attack that also saw more than 40 American soldiers wounded.
Administration officials have repeatedly said they are not seeking a wider war with Iran, even as direct accusations fly against Tehran, and there is talk of military “options” and threats of war by the waves
…because “pressure,” writes Bloomberg: “U.S. President Joe Biden is facing heightened pressure to confront Iran directly after the country's proxies killed three U.S. soldiers in a drone strike in Jordan over the weekend, risking precisely the broader regional conflict it is trying to avoid.”
“A person familiar with the US position, who asked not to be identified discussing private conversations, said it was clear that a strike, which also injured at least 34 people, would force a stronger response than the US has so far now for weeks.” Bloomberg continues.
