And proving that no good deed goes unpunished, the Walmart employee who recorded and shared the video on social media has been fired. Felicia Nicole said she had been fired after five years of service with the big-box retail giant, and was fired two hours before her shift was due to end days later.
“I don't feel sorry for her, she needs to be in jail…she shouldn't have done this to her baby,” Nicole. he said the Daily Mail. “Walmart doesn't care about their employees! I was just trying to help.”
Walmart also ordered him to take down video of the incident, and he complied. Later, she updated her TikTok followers with details.
“Yeah, we called the police. I mean, why wouldn't we? Why wouldn't we?” an emotional Nicole said, according to the Daily Mail. “When you see a child being abandoned, don't wear any clothes, just a diaper, no shoes, no socks, no shirt, nothing. So why don't we call the police?”
He explained how he would not allow the same treatment for his own son who had obviously died.
“If my son was alive, there's no way my son would be out there with no clothes, just a diaper,” she said.
Walmart issued a statement regarding the incident and its decision.
“We share the concern others have for the child in the video from our Jackson, Mississippi store. We do not discuss personnel matters involving current or former associates. All associates are encouraged and empowered to use their own discretion to contact authorities when they see something that may be wrong, but all associates are also expected to follow Walmart's code of conduct,” the company said.
In a lengthy Facebook post after her arrest, Darby not only played the victim but compared herself to Jesus Christ, attaching more than 50 photos of herself and her children in an apparent attempt to prove she was a good parent .
“This warp (sic) of character hurts my heart,” the mother said. “They did the same to Jesus, he also had a stomach ache; I didn't want to go through that.”
“We go on vacation, indoor water parks, my son has swimming lessons, soccer lessons, tumbling, basketball, etc., on vacation I go EVERYTHING,” she boasted. “My kids are clean, very clean. Every new pair of shoes they drop, they get them, designer clothes, etc.
The claims go against the grain of the video as the young man sat with no clothes on and gritted his teeth.
“I haven't seen my kids since CPS took me away. Last night was my first night eating a few cookies since my kids were gone,” Darby wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “I know this will happen too. I know that one day my children and I will be reunited.”
As for Nicole, she set up a GoFundMe to help him with his bills after his job was terminated and because “I took it upon myself to record it for the sake of the kid.”
“No, I wasn't thinking about the consequences at the time, at the time my main focus was on that poor innocent boy and getting him help,” he said. he wrote. “'Now I'm out of a job because I was just trying to help and save that baby's life.'
He updated the fundraising page with heartfelt thanks after donations totaled more than $29,000, far surpassing his $5,000 goal.
