Shocking and disturbing video has surfaced showing an 86-year-old man being run over and beheaded by a DOT truck in Brooklyn, leaving everyone speechless. The story took an even more dramatic turn when the victim was identified as the notorious mobster, “Tony Cakes”, real name Anthony Conigliaro, a former acting captain of the Genovese crime family. Police said that although Tony spent his life “looking over his shoulder”, tragically he did not look anywhere before crossing the street. This single mistake led to one of the most gruesome traffic deaths in history.

The New York Post:

The 86-year-old man who was decapitated by a truck that rammed him into a Brooklyn crosswalk is a former acting captain of the Genoese crime family, The Post can exclusively reveal.

Anthony Conigliaro, a former mobster known as “Tony Cakes,” “Tony the Dessert Man,” among other dessert nicknames, died June 12 in an accidental hit by a city Department of Transportation truck, his attorneys and law enforcement. the sources said.

[…]

Before Conigliaro's gruesome death, he apparently lived a quiet life alone in a small Bay Ridge apartment building on Dahlgren Place.

A neighbor told The Post that Conigliaro, a father of two, always looked out for others.

“We miss him. Everybody misses him,” he said.

But the neighbor didn't know about Conigliaro's past, which included not only a mob connection, but also a nearly two-decade-old mob case.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn in 2005 charged Conigliaro, who worked for years in the wholesale cake business, selling candy in the New York City area and running an Italian gelato stand in Little Italy, according to court documents, of being a soldier in Genovese. criminal family

Conigliaro worked as a loan shark for the Genovese, the feds said in a four-count indictment.

🔥🚨BREAKING: A Genoese mobster known as “Tony Cakes” has been identified as the elderly New York pedestrian decapitated by a DOT truck.

“He spent his life looking over his shoulder but forgot to look both ways before crossing the street,” said a police source.

He eventually pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge, for which he received a 13-month sentence, according to court records.

Many who saw the video think it could have been an “execution,” not an accident. They note that it was clearly in the crosswalk for quite some time, and the slow truck suggests that the driver may have been distracted, possibly with his phone, or that the impact was intentional.

one retired police chief X had this to say about the accident:

I have worked many fatal accidents and how he didn't see it is beyond me. I guess the police are going through his cell phone to see if it was in use at the time of the accident. My guess is that it was. He was either texting or talking.

Either way, what an incredible twist of fate, probably a far worse death than anything “Tony Cakes” could have imagined, even during the height of his mobster days.
