Congressional Republicans are furious with House Speaker Mike Johnson for picking “weak and unserious” members of Congress to serve on the Trump assassination task force.
Johnson reportedly worked with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to decide who should serve on the committee.
The good news is that Rep. Bennie Thompson, who was responsible for introducing legislation to strip former President Donald Trump of Secret Service protection, didn't make the cut. But unfortunately, many other bad actors did:
SCOOP: House GOP members fume at Speaker Johnson for again bowing to Democrats on Trump assassination task force, picking weak, unserious members:
“None have experience in countersnipers, convoy, close protection, or advanced team operations”
'Not good'

GOP House members text me: “This task force will be fooled by the security state's doublespeak and not allowed to seek the truth.”

Text from the member of the Republican Conference:
“Johnson, as usual, folds up like a cheap lawn chair”

Democrats chosen for the task force include Reps. Jason Crow, Lou Correa, Madeleine Dean, Chrissy Houlahan, Glenn Ivey and Jared Moskowitz.
Republicans chosen for the task force include Reps. Mike Kelly, Mark Green, Dave Joyce, Laurel Lee, Michael Waltz, Clay Higgins and Pat Fallon.
Missing from the task force are the two hardest-hitting Republicans in Congress, former Navy SEALs Cory Mills and Eli Crane, who were not included on the task force.
This has angered Republican voters, as evidenced by the flurry of tweets directed at Johnson:
Mr. Speaker, why leave out @RepEliCrane i @CoryMillsFL? They clearly belong in the mix too!

@SpeakerJohnson you said you wanted to make sure you had a great team on the trump firing task force, but then you didn't put @CoryMillsFL i @RepEliCrane Who has experience in sniper?? Make it make sense!!

Listen, spineless snake in the grass, why didn't you add? @RepEliCrane & @CoryMillsFL in the working group? You know they have the expertise to expose security flaws more than other members. Maybe we should set up a committee to investigate who you are talking to

As always @SpeakerJohnson You keep letting the Republicans down. The 2 most important members of Congress who gave to be appointed to this weak task force are @RepEliCrane (who was a sniper and has been to PA) and Cory Mills also military. Include them!!!!

@CoryMillsFL @RepEliCrane
He should be part of this committee.
The fact that they are not means that this will be as fair and legitimate as the J6 committee.
You keep telling MAGA who you are, I hope everyone sees it now. pic.twitter.com/so6C9VM3di— ToniHS101 (@toni_hs101) July 30, 2024
Crane has also noted his absence from the task force.
“Very unfortunate, but no surprise to anyone familiar with how DC works,” he tweeted Monday, responding to news of the task force's creation. “I'm not a politician, a leader or a 'yes man'.”
Continuing the tweet, he floated the idea of launching his own investigation independent of the task force.
“I wish the members of the @SpeakerJohnson Task Force the best of luck, and I think it's time for a parallel independent investigation with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the whistleblowers who have already come forward with spoke with @EliCrane_CEO and @bennyjohnson.” He wrote
“I will speak to other members and, although I will not have subpoena powers, I will personally fund whatever is needed so that additional staff can investigate and expose the truth,” he added.
Look at:
It's very unfortunate, but not surprising to anyone familiar with how DC works. I am not a politician, a leader or a “yes man”.
I wish the members of @SpeakerJohnson The task force well, and think it is time for a parallel independent investigation with experts in the field… https://t.co/izYXT0z34d

Crane and Mills visited the site of Trump's assassination attempt in Pennsylvania and have doubts about the official narrative surrounding shooter Thomas Crooks.
I am on the roof of the building in Butler, PA where shots were fired in an attempt to assassinate President Trump.
As a former Navy SEAL sniper, it became clear to me that many security measures were abandoned by making Pres. Trump extremely vulnerable.
Many questions remain. pic.twitter.com/p2EhBTFg1M
