A Democratic Christmas Party in Detroit, Michigan, turned violent on December 16 when a pro-Palestinian mob stormed the event, giving an activist two black eyes and sending her to the hospital.
The party was hosted by the 13th Congressional District Democratic Party. Members of the Palestinian Youth Movement and the Party for Socialism and Liberation crashed the meeting at Detroit's Common Pub and proceeded to aggressively confront Representative Shri Thanedar (D-MI) for his support for Israel.
“Shri, you can't hide, we accuse you of genocide,” the mob chanted, accusing the Democrat and Israel of mass murder in response after Hamas terrorists raped, tortured, kidnapped and killed more than 1,200 Israelis in October 7
Bobbie Avington-Smith, the black activist who was attacked, proclaimed on Instagram: “Arabs in Detroit tried to kill me!”

The bleeding activist called on “black men” to stand up and fight “the Arabs” who disrupted the event. He urged them to “get their shit together”.

According to the daily mail, during the video clip of the party circulating on social media, gospel music can be heard in the background as people pushed and screamed for a ceasefire. In one of the clips circulating, 91-year-old former Detroit police officer Bernice Smith is seen beating protesters with her baton.

Detroit is home to a large Arab population. According to the Daily Mail, “The suburb of Dearborn has the largest Muslim population per capita in the United States.”
People who attended the event were shocked, including Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Kinloch, who is the Democratic Party Chairman of the 13th Congressional District. He posted a video on X that showed another close-up of the incident.

Thanedar told the protesters, “This will not support your cause.”
According to the Daily Mail, he told them they could come to his office and town halls to “have a dialogue”.
Thanedar is a staunch supporter of Israel. A statement on its website said: “Now more than ever it is important to reaffirm… our unequivocal support for the State of Israel, the lone democracy in the Middle East and one of our closest and strongest allies in all the world”.
A press conference was held on Monday where Kinloch and other Democrats talked about the “riots”.

“They had no right to be there in the first place,” Kinloch claimed. “The owner asked them to leave, I asked them to leave. They refused to leave, so they were removed from a place where they had no business or legal right to be.”
There was no security at the event because no one expected violence.
No arrests have been made. A spokesman for the Detroit Police Department said the incident is under investigation.
