Meta to remove restrictions on Trump's account after threatening to jail Zuck

Former President Donald J. Trump will have one less social media company to worry about when it comes to election interference.

On Friday, Meta announced that it will remove restrictions on Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts when he is officially nominated at next week's Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“With party conventions coming up shortly, including the Republican convention next week, the nominees for President of the United States will soon be formally named. In evaluating our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the people of North- American should be able to hear presidential candidates on the same basis. As a result, former President Trump, as the nominee of the Republican Party, will no longer be subject to the higher suspension penalties,” the tech giant said in one statement.

“In reaching this conclusion, we also considered that these sanctions were a response to extreme and extraordinary circumstances, and that they did not have to be deployed. All candidates for the presidency of the United States remain subject to the same community standards as all Facebook and Instagram users, including policies designed to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence,” the statement said.

Meta's change of heart comes days after a heated post by Trump on his platform Truth Social in which he rained fire on Democrats and their stooges, urging House Republicans to pass the Safeguards Act 'American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) which would ensure that only US citizens can vote.

At the end of the post, Trump specifically singled out “ZUCKERBUCKS,” meaning the Facebook founder whose money underwrote Democratic shenanigans in the controversial 2020 election.

“Democrats can't win with their policies, the only way they can win is to cheat,” Trump wrote. “They do it at all levels of government and they do it well. This is how they get an incompetent moron like Joe Biden elected. Be tough RNC (Michael W!), Speaker Johnson and all state and local Republican politicians. The Justice Department is CORRUPT and will do nothing to help. They have no shame! All I can say is that if I am elected president, we will go after the election fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON'T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, watch out!”

The timing of Meta's announcement just three days after Trump's announcement seems to be an indication that some may decide not to push their luck this time.

In other tech mogul news Friday, billionaire X owner Elon Musk reportedly donated a “significant amount” to a PAC supporting Trump.

“Musk has contributed to a low-profile group called America PAC, according to people familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity to detail their plans. It's unclear how much Musk has given, but people characterized the figure as a considerable amount,” seconds at Bloomberg.
