Former First Lady Melania Trump issued a heartfelt statement after a would-be assassin opened fire on her husband, former President Donald Trump, who was shot in the right ear.
Mrs Trump referred to the now-dead gunman as a “monster” and blamed the botched assassination on the dehumanization of political figures.
“I am thinking of you now, fellow Americans,” the former first lady said in the statement. “We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is torn, but our courage and common sense must rise up and bring us back together as one.”
“When I saw that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I knew my life and Barron's were on the brink of a devastating change,” she continued. “I am grateful to the brave Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband.

Mrs Trump spoke directly to the families of the other victims of the shooting: one man was killed and two others were seriously injured.
“To the families of the innocent victims now suffering this heinous act, I humbly offer my deepest condolences. Your need to muster your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me,” he wrote.
“A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine tried to rekindle Donald's passion: his laughter, wit, love of music and inspiration,” Melania said. “The basic facets of my husband's life, his human side, were buried under the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man I've been with through the best of times and the worst of times.”
Claiming that “differing opinions, policies and political games are inferior to love,” Mrs Trump said: “Our personal, structural, life-to-death commitment is at serious risk. Political concepts are simple compared to us humans. We are all human, and fundamentally, we want to help each other. American politics is only a vehicle that can elevate our communities. kindness and empathy are necessities.”
“The dawn is here again. Let's come together. Now. This morning, rise above the hate, vitriol and simple ideas that ignite violence,” the former first lady concluded. “We all want a world where respect is paramount, family comes first and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to take it back. We must insist that the respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships, again.”
