Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has a very good reason why he dropped $30,000 on hair and makeup last year.
The money, which came out of the Friends of Brandon Johnson campaign fund, it wasn't just to help the mayor look and feel good, but to help black businesses.
I will see:
A reporter asks Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson why he spent $30,000 on hair and makeup from his campaign funds.
He says it was to help black businesses.

A reporter asked the mayor to justify why he believes this is an “appropriate use” of campaign funds. Johnson's campaign adviser was originally unapologetic and said “Appearances matter.” But now, the mayor says he's doing it to help local black-owned businesses.
“I think it's always appropriate to make sure we're investing in small businesses, especially minority-owned, black-owned and women-owned businesses,” Johnson said. “Our campaign spends money on food, we support black and brown-owned businesses. Printing. There are a number of things that my campaign spends dollars on, and I'm so committed to supporting small businesses that, until and all as mayor, we just made another announcement of another $34-35 million available for small businesses.”
“This is important for people, that we lift up small businesses that don't always get the attention and support they deserve,” he continued. “And we're going to continue to do that, as a city, and we're going to make sure that, you know, I encourage all of you in this room to support small businesses. Go get your hair and makeup done on black people in particular.”

This could have easily been an SNL or Mad TV skit from 20 years ago. Now it's reality.

So as long as I spend it on black business, it's okay?

However, that would be a crime if Trump did it.

Illinois law does not recognize hair and makeup expenses as valid campaign expenses. You also may not pay more than fair market value for services.
He is handing out free cash to his friends. This is corruption!

30k is a lot of money and less just for hair, I cut my hair so spending anything seems ridiculous but $575 a week on hair is excessive.

So he overpays black businesses?

The arrogance attached to corruption runs deep indeed.
