Mark Cuban sells $38,500 worth of NFTs despite Gmail security breach

-

Renowned billionaire investor and TV personality Mark Cuban recently sold more than 14 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for more than $38,500, despite a security breach in his Gmail account. Among the NFTs sold was his Pudgy Penguins NFT #6239, which fetched over $30,000. Other top sellers included EulerBeats Genesis and DeepBlack NFTs, as well as EtherIslands and Wrapped MoonCats, with prices ranging from $22 to $1,846.

In addition to these transactions, Cuban has also listed two other premium NFTs for sale, including a Dallas Mavericks Proof of Culture NFT and a BibleNFT called Deuteronomy 25:4. If these sales are successful, Cuba's total NFT sales in a two-day period could exceed $100,000.

Despite these sales, the Cuban wallet still contains around 1,600 items, with the extensive NFT collection valued at over 1,900 ETH, or roughly $6.2 million. This flurry of activity comes in the wake of a security incident in which Cuban's Gmail account was compromised. The investor reported the breach, warning anyone who received emails from his account after a certain time that they were not from him. He has since regained control of his account.

The connection between the security breach and NFT sales remains unclear. However, it is worth noting that Cuban has been a strong supporter of NFTs since their rise in 2021, investing heavily in projects and platforms such as CryptoSlam and Mintable. Despite the recent downturn in the NFT market, Cuban remains optimistic about its growth potential, drawing parallels between the initial challenges facing tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft and the current state of the NFT market.

Cuban's recent NFT sales coincided with a significant drop in the floor price of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs, leading to speculation about his motivations. Regardless, their actions can be seen as a response to current market conditions or as a strategic move within their larger investment portfolio.
