A Cook County judge handed down the decision for 43-year-old Michael Goodman on Tuesday, just one day after he was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a young girl.
A nine-year-old girl in Chicago who rode a scooter in her neighborhood was executed by her neighbor Saturday night who allegedly shot her in the head for being “too loud”

Prosecutors said 9-year-old Serabi Medina was outside with her father over the weekend, when she rode her scooter to an ice cream truck. Medina’s father was speaking to friends, and that is when they heard a gunshot.
The girl’s father told her to run back inside, but witnesses say that in the blink of an eye, Goodman came outside of the building, raised his gun, and shot the 9-year-old in the head.
“When he raised the gun up, Mike seen him and said, ‘that’s my daughter!’ Mike starts moving towards him, he walks up to her and shoots her right in the head,” said Rene Aquino, who witnessed the incident.
Medina’s father immediately tackled Goodman. Prosecutors said that is when the gun went off a second time, shooting Goodman in the face.
The young girl was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Goodman was hospitalized in critical condition, but was able to make it to court in person on Tuesday.
A motive for the cold blooded killing remains unclear. Witnesses said the shooting was unprovoked, but added Goodman had a history of complaining about the noise and would often yell at kids playing in the neighborhood if they were being too loud.
Neighbors also said this is not the first time Medina’s father lost a loved one to gun violence, as his wife was shot in the face outside of their previous home in 2018.
Goodman is due to appear back in court on August 23rd.
