Lindsey Graham Hugs Fani Willis After Georgia Trump Testimony: Report

A new book claims that Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina hugged Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is prosecuting former President Donald Trump, after she testified in the case, Politico reported Wednesday.

Willis got one accusation against Trump and several other defendants on August 19, on 41 separate charges related to an alleged criminal scheme to overturn the results of the state's 2020 presidential election, as well as filing false documents. Graham, who was briefly involved in Trump's efforts before conceding Joe Biden's election victory, witnessed before the grand jury in the case on November 22, 2022, where he allegedly “lighted a dime and threw Trump under the bus” and tried to hug Willis after his testimony, seconds to the politician

“It was so cathartic … I feel so much better,” Graham told Willis after her grand jury testimony during a courthouse encounter where she testified, Politico reported. Graham thanked Willis for “the opportunity to tell his story” and then tried to hug Willis.

“'She was like 'whatever, dude,'” according to a witness to the strange encounter, Politico explained. Excerpts were quoted from a chapter a book by Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidmanin, titled “Find Me the Votes: A Hard-Charging Georgia Prosecutor, a Rogue President, and the Plot to Steal an American Election,” which is scheduled to be released Tuesday.

Graham also allegedly disparaged Trump's character before the grand jury,”[suggesting] to grand juries that Trump cheated on golf” and that Trump was gullible. “Graham testified that if you told Trump 'the Martians came and stole the election,' he would probably believe you,” Isikoff and Klaidmanin wrote.

Graham had tried to avoid testifying before the grand jury by invoking his congressional immunity under the “speech or debate” clause in Article 1, section 6 of the US Constitution, which prevents members of Congress from being punished for anything they say during congressional proceedings that might otherwise violate the law, such as defamatory speech. His effort to block the grand jury subpoena was ultimately unsuccessful rejected by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Since impeaching Trump, Willis has been impeached expense public funds to advertising consultants and recruitment a romantic couple as the special prosecutor of the case. Investigations into his conduct have been announced by the Republican-led Committee on the Judiciary of the United States House of Representatives and proposed in the Georgia State Senate, while the Fulton County Commissioner has since issued requests for the production of documents to review the expenses of your office.

Graham has it endorsed Trump's campaign for the presidency in the 2024 presidential election.

Graham, Willis and the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
