Liam Neeson: ‘So many’ Star Wars spin-offs ‘diluting’ the franchise

men Thursday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live!” with host Andy Cohen, Liam Neeson was asked if he would reprise his role as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in a Star Wars spin-off and the legendary actor bluntly replied that too many Star Wars spin-off series were “diluting” the franchise.

“No, I’m not. There are many Star Wars spin-offs. It’s diluting me, for me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic, in a weird way,” said the actor.

Neeson starred in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and recently had a brief cameo in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan McGregor.

“It was nice to do a little bit with Ewan after 25 years, 24 years,” Neeson said. “I appeared in the last episode – I had three lines to say, two lines, and that was great. I loved doing that. That’s it.”

In another interview last year, Neeson said he would only reprise his Star Wars role if it was in a movie, not on TV.

“If it was a movie… Yeah. I’m a bit of a TV snob, I have to admit, I like the big screen, you know?” he said.

Cohen responded to Neeson’s honest take on Disney’s Star Wars spin-offs: “Liam, I love how outspoken you are. You really don’t give a ***… in terms of sharing your opinions. You are open and honest.”

Actor Paul Rudd, sitting on the TV set between Cohen and Neeson, said: “He’s the most authentic villain there is.”

The live audience applauded Neeson for his honesty.

In another interview, Neeson shared how he thought his legendary phone call speech in the movie Taken was “ejaculated.”

“I certainly thought it was scary, but I thought it was cheesy,” Neeson said. “It was cornball. I really felt it. It’s nice to be proven wrong.”

Also, Neeson has been open about his dislike of love scenes in movies.

“I’ve done a lot of sex scenes and I would have preferred to leave it to the imagination, especially for the women, the actresses,” said the movie star. “I’ll be honest, when I see a sex scene, I just can’t watch them. I feel embarrassed.”
