A freelance journalist earned a truckload of scorn on social media after he appeared to tell Israel to get over an attack on its people by Hamas terrorists.
Aaron Maté, a reporter for the far-left blog The Grayzone, received a brutal community note on X after his tone-deaf tweet about Israel. Still, even after the note was taken down, his view of the October 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,400 people in Israel resonated on the social media platform where it was taken in the firewood
“I’m not a fan of mass murder,” Maté tweeted last week and was flagged by a community note on X.
These are definitely the funniest and most brutal community notes of all time. Big fans of mass murder like Aaron Mate don’t like having their own records scrutinized like this. pic.twitter.com/vjnwLUp8e9

With supporters rallying to remove the note from the platform, Maté was finally freed from scrutiny, if only briefly.
This community note should be on pretty much every aaron mate post https://t.co/uu2EL6yMC4

dead criticized the “clumsy community note” and those making “false characterizations” of him before announcing the note had been removed.
Update: The defamatory “community note” has been removed. Thanks to everyone who challenged it. And thanks to the bitter neocons for reminding us how desperate you are to smear dissenting voices you can’t refute.

He mocked all the “neocon fans of mass murder” in another tweet saying: “Your defamatory ‘community note’ of me just sent the community into oblivion. Peace.”
But days later, the writer was targeted again as he appeared to blame Israel for Hamas’ atrocities and even argued that because the October 7 attack was perpetrated only “one day” , Israel cannot continue its war against the terrorist group in Gaza.
“Israel had the right to defend its people from the militants who attacked as it happened on October 7. But it was a one-day event,” he wrote, adding, “You can’t spend the next period massacring the civilians you occupy in revenge for an attack that happened more than a month ago. And this attack wouldn’t have happened in the first place if it wasn’t for the occupation.”

His terrible take was deleted on X, where users reminded him that 9/11, the attack on Pearl Harbor and other days in history were also “one-day” events and “war is not that’s how it works.”

Are hostages a one day thing too? Because I’m sure they’d like to go home to their relatives… The ones who weren’t slaughtered.

“One Day Event”
This is up there with “someone did something”.— Cathy Buffaloe (@cathybuffaloe) November 21, 2023
Hamas has never stopped firing rockets into Israel. So can they do it daily?

Pearl Harbor was also a “one day event”. Sunset doesn’t mean the fallout window is over.

That’s not how war works. “Oh, the Japanese attacked us one day at Pearl Harbor, I guess that’s all we can fight back.” No. You keep hitting your enemy until they can’t or won’t hit you back. Gaza started a war, now it has to deal with the consequences of that war.

Are you actually telling Israel to “get over it”?
