Laura Ingraham argues that Trump should “stop talking about 2020”, focus on the future

Recently, Fox News host Laura Ingraham appeared to criticize former President Donald Trump for his ongoing commentary on the controversial 2020 election. In Ingraham’s view, it’s time for Trump to shift his focus, focus on a comprehensive 50-state strategy, and leave his gripes about the past behind.

During a recent episode of The Ingraham Angle, Ingraham, in a no-nonsense speech, urged Trump to refocus his focus on the future and suggested he stop talking about the 2020 election if he intends to succeed in the 2024 presidential race.

Ingraham was adamant that revisiting the past would not attract new supporters to her campaign and could reduce her current following.

He also stated that any disparaging comments about popular Republican governors or senators in key states is not only ill-advised, but also self-defeating.

Here’s the transcript via Fox News:

“I’ll offer my free advice to both Trump and DeSantis; both will probably be unhappy, but there you have it. As someone who has covered seven previous presidential campaigns and worked for President Reagan, I think it’s time for both candidates to remember a few things. First, to Governor DeSantis. The voters of Ohio and Arizona, Pennsylvania, don’t know you very well, but they don’t want to hear a litany of Florida accomplishments right now, as great as they are.

“They want to know that you can beat Biden on the number one issue: the economy. So let’s talk about the economy. What are your specific solutions to protect American jobs and lower the price of energy? Smile, too. Have fun out there. Don’t be afraid to show your personality and ask people what’s on their mind. I promise it won’t be Disney or Bud Light, and as for President Trump, keep an eye on the prize: 270 electoral votes. Everything everything you say, everything you do, must be geared toward winning the states you need to win.”

“This should be a 50-state campaign for America. Attacking popular Republican governors or senators and battleground states is beyond reckless. It’s self-defeating. Why do that? General election voters want to vote for a winner, not a whiner. So please, for God’s sake, stop talking about 2020. That won’t get a single voter to support you any more than before. I didn’t support you. You need to grow the pot, not shrink it. Be magnanimous and be the elder statesman that Biden is obviously not capable of. That will reassure people, and look, your policies worked before, they will work again. The Democrats rely on these judgments and count on a distracted electorate to push Biden over the finish line. Hey guys, let’s not let them get away with it.

Ingraham’s remarks represent a split among the conservative base: While some would prefer the Republican Party to look toward the future, the Trump-supporting base argues that the only way to do that is by fixing the problems with the 2020 election.
