LATEST: Mexican gunman on the loose in Texas after allegedly killing five people ‘execution style’

Texas authorities are searching for a Mexican, Francisco Oropeza, suspected of killing five people in San Jacinto County on Friday.

A sheriff’s office harassment call turned deadly Friday night in the Trails End subdivision in Texas. The incident reportedly began with a harassment complaint at a home on Walter Drive shortly after 11:30 p.m. and quickly escalated into a shooting.

Upon arrival, authorities found several individuals who had been shot. Ten people were reportedly inside the home at the time of the incident, ranging in age from 8 to 40 years old, and all were from Honduras. Of them, four were pronounced dead at the scene, while an eight-year-old boy died in hospital. Fortunately, three young children were found alive inside the home, reportedly safe from the violence of two of the victims.

The alleged shooter, Francisco Oropeza, 38, remains at large. The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking his arrest, and the search has been joined by a SWAT team from a neighboring county and personnel from the Texas Department of Corrections.

Reports suggest Oropeza killed the victims “execution style” after a dispute arose when he fired a gun in their front yard.

“When we got here, the two women in the bedroom were lying on top of two of the three youngest (surviving) children,” San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said, according to KTRK.

Capers said Oropeza fled the area after the killings. A SWAT team recovered several weapons.

“The suspect … we don’t believe he’s in the area,” Capers said. “It’s at least 10 to 20 miles from here.”

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Oropeza and set bail at $5 million, ABC News reported. Oropeza is believed to be armed and drunk, according to Reuters.

A SWAT team from a neighboring county and the Texas Department of Corrections have been deployed to assist with the search.
