Late night “humor” is directed at conservatives more than 80% of the time

The afternoon bias was easily quantified by a watchdog group that counted the punchlines to reveal which showed the worst bias in 2023.

The leftist leanings of the corporate media are known to extend beyond the newsroom, and permeate every facet of the entertainment industry as well. Proving this point, the Media Research Center analyzed nearly 10,000 attempted political jokes on six daily shows to reveal that 81% were directed at a right-wing individual or position.

With a window that runs from January 3 to December 22, 2023, MRC Found “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ABC's “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and the canceled “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on CBS, Comedy Central's “The Daily Show” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “NBC's” The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” had collectively told 9,518 politically charged jokes.

Of those, 7,729 or 81 percent were aimed at “someone or something on the right side of the political spectrum,” the watchdog concluded, defining a joke as “anything that tries to get a laugh people, which is not necessarily the same thing. something like a line meant to elicit applause or boos from the studio audience.”

Unsurprisingly, the number one target on each show was former President Donald Trump, who earned 2,440 hits at his expense while second was President Joe Biden with 912.

From there, with the 25th place going collectively to Congress, the first positions were considered as the right of ousted New York Rep. George Santos (R) taking third place with 835 jokes, Fox News col ·place 11 with 173 and the billionaire Elon. Musk in 22nd place with 61 jokes.

After Biden, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) was the next leftist at No. 26, even beating Vice President Kamala Harris, the next Democrat at 34.

ABC's Kimmel was the worst offender of the lot with 88 percent of his 2,215 political jokes targeting the right, while Colbert followed closely behind with 86 percent of his 1,918 jokes doing the same.

Seth Meyers attempted 2,445 political jokes with 84% right-leaning and “The Daily Show” with a host of hosts and correspondents had 78% of 1,277 political jokes aimed at conservatives and the GOP. Of course, among them was an even worse culprit than Kimmel in the form of guest host John Leguizamo who, in just four episodes, told 66 political jokes with all but one aimed at the right.

Fallon and Corden dragged the average to 66 and 54 percent respectively. Also, before his show ended in April, the latter was the only member of the late-night cast to have told more jokes about Harris than his predecessor, Vice President Mike Pence, though two to one.

All told, the ratio of Trump to Biden dropped to 2.5 to 1 and his children to 9:1, as the former president's children were mocked 250 times to just 27 for Hunter Biden. The ratio was slightly worse among first ladies, with Melania Trump getting 58 jokes compared to Jill Biden's six.
