US officials' national security alarms have been set off warning that “terrorist warning lights are flashing red again”.
But the latest portents of imminent danger to the homeland come from a national defense and security policy analyst and a former acting CIA director who was among a list of alleged “experts” who spread the story of the New York Post on Hunter Biden's laptop.
Former acting CIA director Michael Morell joined Graham Allison in writing a warning in Foreign Affairs that “the United States faces a serious threat of terrorist attack in the coming months.”
Comparing current conditions to the period leading up to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the authors pointed to then-CIA Director George Tenet's warnings about Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda in the director's current statements of the FBI Chris Wray and Army General Erik Kurilla. , the commander of CENTCOM.
“Two and a half decades later, Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, is sounding similar alarms. His discussions within the Biden administration are private, but his congressional testimony and other public statements could not be more explicit “, said. he wrote.

“In the years since 9/11, other officials have warned of terrorist threats that fortunately did not materialize, but that does not mean that Wray and Kurilla's comments today should be discounted. The The rise and fall of terrorism warnings over the years have generally corresponded to the level of real risk is at stake, complacency is a greater risk than alarmism,” they continued.
Morell and Allison further noted that “policymakers should not underestimate the threat of a terrorist attack” and President Joe Biden “should launch a comprehensive campaign to stop any terrorist planning that may be underway” .
Outlining several “steps” and goals the Biden administration must take to prevent another 9/11-style attack on the US, the authors suggested: “Congressional intelligence committees should convene unclassified hearings with the directors of National Intelligence, the CIA and the FBI, and the National Counterterrorism Center and we ask each agency to offer their candid views.”
To address what we believe to be this heightened threat, we recommend taking several pages out of the playbook used to prevent potential attacks in the run-up to the millennium.

“A terrorist attack is a preventable catastrophe. As the threat grows, policymakers must rise to the challenge of protecting the US homeland,” they concluded.
Reporting on the piece published in Foreign Affairs, Axios noted, “Repeated warnings from such officials and national security experts in the two decades since 9/11 have not come to fruition.”
“During this time, terrorism has faded as a national fixation,” the outlet added.
Immigration analyst Alexander Nowrasteh of the Cato Institute agrees that the authors “don't adduce much evidence” to support their warnings.
Allison and Morell are serious people and I take them at their word that they are scared, but they don't gather much evidence here, other than statements from officers who have made many previous predictions that failed to materialize and some cases that are definitely not scary. .

Morell was one of 51 former U.S. intelligence officials who called the Hunter Biden laptop story “Russian disinformation” in a 2020 letter. But even after the Justice Department and the FBI confirmed the laptop's authenticity, “experts,” including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, continued to stand by their letter.

One social media user responded to the story: “Just in time for the election.”
Others reacted to the terrorism warning from “intelligence” experts, as seen here:
When I see things like this, it just makes me think that the FBI and CIA are planning to kill a bunch of people and lie about it so they can steal another election. https://t.co/zNcXNRVWHa

Pretty serious stuff if it's a “legendary foreign policy thinker.” Writing bluntly

At this point, we hope so. You'll have to have SOMETHING up your sleeve, again, to derail the election. I miss the days when alphabet agencies were largely reliable. Too. Lots of. lies
