“Lack of political will to enforce the laws”

-

The owner of a California bakery that was ransacked by a mob of young thugs last week is now speaking out about the rampant anarchy.

As previously reported, about 100 young thugs broke into Ruben's Bakery & Mexican Food in Compton during a street takeover last Tuesday and proceeded to attack, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

In a press release issued after the raid, Reuben Ramirez Jr., whose family owns the bakery, blamed the incident on a lack of city and county law enforcement.

“We must state the facts: Those individuals who looted our store and those who have participated in 'smash and grab' robberies throughout Los Angeles County are doing so knowing there is a lack of political will to enforce the laws that exist to protect ALL families and ALL businesses,” he said.

“We need those who enforce our laws to do their job and make sure criminals know that our laws must be followed and that if you break the law, you will be held accountable and pay the consequences. No company, regardless of the community they are in, should never go through what we are going through now. Enough is enough,” he added.

Later speaking on Fox News”America reports”, said Ramirez Jr. that he and his parents were heartbroken over the damage to their nearly 50-year-old business.

“At first, like everyone else, we were angry and then we were sad,” he said. “The worst thing was to see that my parents built something for more than 48 years, almost lose it because of this violence that is happening right now. These street takeovers in Compton have been getting worse and worse.”

Listen:

According to Ramírez Jr., other business owners in the area are also frustrated by the street's incessant takeovers.

“My neighbors here tell me the same thing: they are with us and they want this to stop. But I don't know how you can stop it,” he said.

“We need better policies for the community to help us. I would say that sometimes these relaxed laws don't help, and the people who suffer are the working people. I hate to say it, but nobody gets punished for anything,” he added.

The crazy thing is that the bakery previously survived many other things, including the COVID pandemic.

“We survived the Rodney King riots, the pandemic and other things that happen here and there,” Ramirez Jr. said. Los Angeles Times. “I never thought this would happen to us.”

To its credit, the city is at least trying to help after the fact.

“We need to support our local businesses and make sure criminals know we will not tolerate the destruction of our beloved local businesses, which are the backbone of our city,” said City Councilman Andre Spicer of Compton, in a statement.

“Our office has donated supplies, including paint to cover all the graffiti, to the business, helping them restore their store,” he added.

But it's unclear whether the city is doing anything, at all, about the lawlessness rampant in Los Angeles County.

Indeed, the attack on Ruben's Bakery & Mexican Food comes amid a spike in crime that critics, including local police, have blamed on the Democratic jurisdiction's zero-bail policy.

“The removal of cash bail for these types of offenses is really an invitation to these types of people who are inclined to break the law and are inclined to do it so brazenly, to push them to say, 'Hey, if I were to get caught, I'll come back again,'” said Tom Saggau, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Protective League. Fox News in August

“Zero cash bail, also known as no cash bail or a zero dollar bond, refers to people who are arrested and charged with a crime and then released without having to pay any bail up front,” Fox News noted at the time.

“The policy was first implemented in LA during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce jail overcrowding. It was rescinded in July 2022, but a judge reinstated the policy the following May that recent arrestees filed a class action lawsuit that they couldn't afford to post bail and had to stay in jail for a few extra days.

The policy has resulted in a huge increase in robberies, particularly the break-ins and break-ins of big brand stores and small shops, as well as endless street takeovers, many of them with violent conclusions.

Cindi Enamorado would know. He lost his brother last year when he was killed by someone fleeing a street robbery in his car.

“Every time it takes over a street, we relive our nightmare, a nightmare we've been living for almost a year and I would hate for anything to happen to another family. I want to know, what's the plan?” Enamorado said at a recent local council meeting.

“We need to create a firewall, we need to stop allowing these kids from other cities to terrorize and vandalize the city. We need to take this as seriously as it is because at this point, it's only a matter of time before it's lost another life,” he added.
