Kyrsten Sinema is 'not thinking about' running for re-election as the filing deadline approaches

-

As the 2024 election cycle gets under way, independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) is “not thinking” about whether she intends to run again.

Arizona's filing deadline is April 8, and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) and Republican Kari Lake, a staunch Trump supporter and former gubernatorial candidate, are already in the race.

“If Sinema runs for a second term, he would create an unpredictable three-way race as an underdog independent trying to draw voters from” Gallego and Lake, according to Politician.

Sinema broke away from the Democratic party last year.

Since then, he has focused his energy immigrationdoing everything possible to position himself as a bipartisan negotiator and cement his legacy.

“Before that, he helped negotiate a gun-security deal, rejected changes to the filibuster and cut some provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act,” reports Politico.

Despite all that is at stake in 2024, Sinema still refuses to say whether he will run for re-election.

“I'm not thinking about that right now,” he told Politico. “You know what I'm thinking [about]? The limit.”

The deadline to present himself may be in April, but if he decides to seek a second term, as an independent, “he should start collecting signatures to make the vote much earlier”, according to the medium.

With more than $10 million in his campaign coffers, Sinema trails Gallego and Lake in the polls.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), the Senate GOP campaign chairman, is not optimistic about Sinema's chances.

“There is no path that we can see for Kyrsten in this race,” he told Politico. “It will be Kyrsten's decision, but I think it will be a difficult road for her.”

If he decides to throw his hat in the ring, it would “create a chaotic and inscrutable race in a challenging state,” warns Politico. “It would certainly affect the campaign strategies of his two enemies, even if he starts third.”

Lake is already accusing “tough guy” Gallego, claiming to X that he supports and “finances human trafficking, child sex trafficking and drug trafficking.”

“And he left his wife when she was nine months pregnant and then served her with divorce papers,” Lake testified Saturday. “Arizonians demand better.”

According to Lake, Arizona “is being used as a conduit for the largest human trafficking operation in history.”

“Our country is being invaded and most of the foreign army is passing through Arizona,” he wrote to X.

If elected, the former news anchor vowed that on day one she would begin work to “stop the invasion; Fund and build the wall (everything); Eliminate fraudulent asylum cases; [and] Restore a secure border.”

“I would love to have your support as we take back this critical seat in the United States Senate,” he told Arizonans.
