Kim Reynolds’ endorsement didn’t help DeSantis, so now they have a new plan…

Ron DeSantis may not have a huge fan base, but he can certainly count Kim Reynolds, the governor of Iowa, as his biggest “super fan.” Reynolds’ enthusiasm for DeSantis is so over the top that some joke he might be doing cartwheels to get a few extra votes for him. But let’s face it, Iowa plays a big part in DeSantis’ strategy, and he’s counting on Reynolds, his “hometown hero,” to help him get a win. It’s a stretch, most would say, but DeSantis sees Reynolds as his “trump card” (pun intended). As a result, the pair travel together, like a modern-day Abbott and Costello duo, across the state, desperately trying to rack up votes.

Unfortunately for DeSantis, Reynolds’ endorsement doesn’t appear to have done much to boost his campaign. According to a recent poll, DeSantis only gained a paltry one percent, an embarrassingly marginal increase that falls hopelessly short of Trump’s substantial lead of nearly 30 percent.

Nebraska Examiner:

Support for DeSantis in the poll was only slightly higher than last month, up 1 percentage point, despite his support from Reynolds. The Trump campaign said in an email that recent polling results show DeSantis is “dead in the water, and even Kim Reynolds’ endorsement hasn’t made a difference.”

However, Kim is a loyal fan. Now he is changing his strategy in a very determined, if desperate, attempt to bring Ron DeSantis to his state. But Rom is so far behind in the race that the finish line might as well be invisible to him. To make matters worse for Team DeSantis, there are reports that he is on the financial ropes. Despite these obstacles, Kim is moving forward to help him establish a new headquarters in Iowa.

USA Today:

Hours before former President Donald Trump held a rally in Fort Dodge, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his powerhouse, Gov. Kim Reynolds, were opening a new campaign office for DeSantis in metro Des Moines.

“If you like what we’ve done here in Iowa, you’re going to love what Ron DeSantis is going to do for this country,” Reynolds promised the crowd.

Dozens of packed Iowans, including some lawmakers, lobbyists and activists, gathered at DeSantis’ Urbandale campaign office for the morning event, sipping coffee and snacking on donuts as the two governors spoke.

The Urbandale office is the second Iowa headquarters for the DeSantis campaign, joining an office in Des Moines. The campaign has ramped up its resources in the state in recent weeks ahead of the Jan. 15 Iowa Caucus.

With Reynolds’ endorsement and a busy schedule of campaign stops around the state, DeSantis vowed to keep “working hard” to win supporters in Iowa. The most recent Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa poll showed DeSantis tied for second place with former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, with 16 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers nominating him as your first choice.

Trump, who also campaigned in Iowa on Saturday, has a significant lead with 43% support.

Is DeSantis correct in his assessment that Iowa voters remain “undecided”? Current polls suggest that most people have made up their minds. However, in today’s unpredictable and often unfair election landscape, anything is possible, and polls may not always capture the full picture, so only time will tell. And between now and caucus day, you can bet Governor Reynolds will be practicing her cartwheels.
