Kevin Costner has not closed the door to return to the hit TV series “Yellowstone”. In a recent CBS Sunday morning Interview, the Academy Award-winning actor expressed his willingness to reprise his role as John Dutton if the story appeals to him. “Yeah, if I liked the story, where it was going, I'd go back,” Costner said.
Costner emphasized that his departure from “Yellowstone” was not to focus solely on his latest project, “Horizon: An American Saga.” “I did everything I was hired to do with 'Yellowstone,'” he explained. The actor also hinted at possible legal action over unpaid funds related to his time on the show, which came up during his recent child support court battle with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner.

Costner's commitment to “Horizon” was a major factor in the scheduling conflicts that arose with “Yellowstone.” He revealed that he was offered $24 million to continue the series for seasons 5, 6, and 7, but the show was canceled due to scheduling issues. “I'll probably go to court over this,” he commented about receiving payments from the past few seasons.
Despite the legal and personal challenges, Costner remains focused on his ambitious post-Civil War drama “Horizon,” which opens June 28. The film, co-written and directed by Costner, represents a significant investment of his own money, estimated at $38 million. The all-star cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Costner's 15-year-old son, Hayes Logan Costner.
“I'm like a wagon going west,” shared Costner, reflecting on his journey. “I have to hold on to the rope because I have this pact with the public that I have to give them something. I want them to go west.”
