An interview with Kelsey Grammer was cut short after the actor was asked to comment on his continued support for the former president.
On Monday, the conservative star who recently reprized his iconic role as Dr. Frasier Crane appeared on BBC Radio 4's “Today” show to discuss the “Frasier” reboot. However, a reference to comedian Roseanne Barr's resurgence prompted interviewer Justin Webb to ask about Grammer's current thoughts on former President Donald Trump's political tenure.
“I have to ask you about politics before we wrap up. You mentioned Roseanne early on, which had a huge comeback, but was also a Trump supporter,” Webb noted. “You were, at least, a Trump supporter. I'm fascinated to know if you still are.”
Grammer could be heard affirming without hesitation, “I am, and that's it… I'll let that be the end of it.”
This, according to Webb, was not the whole story. As it happened, the host explained that it was the PR team at streaming service Paramount+, where the actor's third act as the renowned psychiatrist is available, that saw fit to cut off Trump's rant.
“I have to say, actually Kelsey Grammer himself was perfectly happy to keep talking about it. The Paramount+ PR people, less than happy that I'd talked about it at length, so… They decided we'd had too much time for our interview,” Webb explained.
“But I have to stress that he was perfectly happy to talk about why he supports Donald Trump and still does in the next election,” the host added.
While those with short memories or limited exposure to the “Cheers” actor's past comments on politics seemed horrified to learn of Grammer's Republican views, he himself had never shied away from the topic.
During a 2019 interview with Christiane Amanpour for her PBS show “Amanpour and Company,” the journalist questioned whether previously expressed support for Trump had resulted in “any success in Hollywood… You felt like you were a little marginalized?”
“I'm not aware that I've had a shot at it, but passions are certainly running high now, and it's certainly touched an extraordinarily passionate response,” the actor replied. “I don't know if it's as serious or as horrible as everyone wants it to be.”

Grammer went on to criticize the powers that be in the federal government, stating, “I don't think Washington has done us any favors for the last 50 or 60 years, I think they've all been more or less the same party, the same bunch of clowns, the same bunch of really nasty people. And I don't think they've been helping anyone but themselves.”
At the beginning of that same year for a interview with BBC Radio he had proposed to affirm: “I am a conservative. I have been for a long time. I'm just not a great governor.”
Neither Paramount+ nor Trump had commented on the interview at the time of this publication, but social media users included a number of leftists who needed a real-life Dr. Frasier Crane to address their Trump derangement syndrome .

They have always loved me #Frasier as a character and a series.
But Kelsey Grammer has just dispelled all the myths, after revealing it @JustinOnWeb who is a Trump supporter.#r4today

I lost the respect I could have had #KelseyGrammer when I heard him at Desert Island Discs declaring his support #Trump. I just listened to his interview #r4today my opinion has not changed. How can a seemingly well-educated and thoughtful person still support this POS?
