The Labor leader finally accepted yesterday that a woman is a “grown woman” as he confirmed his U-turn gender self-identification.

After months of struggling to say whether a woman could have a penis, sir Keir Starmer yesterday he tried to clear up the confusion.

During an active telephone connection BBC Radio 5 Live, Sir Keir said that in his view, “a woman is a grown woman, so let’s make that clear”.

And he said allowing transgender people to legally identify as their chosen one genre without a medical diagnosis is not the “right way”.

Sir Keir told the BBC: “We don’t think self-identification is the right way to go. We’ve reflected on what happened in Scotland.

“We have stated that we want to modernize the process, get rid of some of the indignities of the process, keep it a medical process.

“We have always said, I have continued to say, and on Sunday, when we completed our policy forum, it allowed us to be clear that there should be safe places, safe spaces, for women, especially in relation to violence against women and girls.’

Sir Keir faced a backlash earlier this year after he claimed that 99.9% of women do not have a penis, implying that one in a thousand women have male genitalia.

In 2021, he said it was “not right” to say that only women have cervixes.

Last night a Tory source told the Mail: “Sir Keir may seem a bit more normal on trans issues but he still believes there are tens of thousands of women who have penises.”

The union leader said his new approach to trans women, which is at odds with Scottish Labour, emerged after the party’s national policy forum at the weekend.

Scottish Labor said earlier this week it remains committed to “demedicalising” the process for trans people to gain legal recognition in their preferred gender.
