Katy Perry faces backlash ahead of 'Woman's World' release.

Pop star Katy Perry is facing criticism ahead of the release of her comeback single, “Woman's World,” which debuts on July 11. Perry, who recently showed off a snippet of the song on TikTok, has received backlash over the social media tagging. the song as “dated” and “cliché”. The single will serve as the lead off Perry's seventh album, her first full-length release since 2020's “Smile,” which received a lukewarm response from critics and fans alike.

Perry, who has been relatively quiet on the music scene, has been focusing on her personal life and other ventures. She welcomed her first child, Daisy Dove, with Orlando Bloom in August 2020, and has also participated in an 80-show Las Vegas residency titled “Play.” Additionally, Perry has served as a judge on “American Idol” for seven seasons, ending her final episode in May.

The announcement of her return has sparked conversation, especially considering it's been more than a decade since Perry released a hit album. Her most recent hit was “Daisies,” which peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020.

The lyrics of “Woman's World” seem to focus on female empowerment, individuality and strength, themes that Perry has explored in previous songs such as “Firework”, “Roar” and “Resilient”. However, the return to a familiar formula has not been well received by the public, with reactions on social media largely negative.

Critics have also accused Perry of borrowing the aesthetic of niche pop musicians such as Charli XCX and Venezuelan producer Arca. More controversy has been sparked by rumors that the song is produced by Dr. Luke, who was publicly accused of emotional and sexual abuse by Kesha. However, the production credits for “Woman's World” have not been verified.
