In what could be a preview of next week's Democratic National Convention, a crowd of anti-Israel protesters converged on a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in New York and chaos erupted.
In an after-party event, protesters also caused several thousand dollars worth of damage. The rally took place in Harlem, where Mayor Eric Adams expressed his full support for Harris, but was marred by anti-Semitic thugs determined to demand that all aid to Israel be stopped. Protesters were kicked out of the event, but that didn't stop them from causing mayhem.
“Make sure you vote,” Hizzoner chanted over and over as protesters were literally dragged out of the event in Upper Manhattan. Adams was joined by Gov. Kathy Hochul and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
“All of us who are on this stage at the moment come from a different political spectrum, we don't always agree on the same thing”, proclaimed the mayor. “But the ability to know when you're in a real fight … that's the real fight.”

Neither Harris nor Walz attended the disorganized rally that proceeded to turn ugly in front of a restaurant where up to 25 attendees gathered after the hearings. If it was done this badly in a small event, the convention could be a real humdinger next week.
“The angry mob of about 50 protesters even stormed the Bird in Hand restaurant at Broadway and West 146th Street as patrons looked on stunned, according to footage from the scene,” New York Post informed

“Other videos showed police arresting tourists while a crowd surrounded the police. Whistles and horns were blown, and smoke bombs were also fired during the brouhaha. One protester appeared to try to swipe the police with a cardboard sign, prompting led to multiple officers grabbing the protester and arresting her on the sidewalk, more footage was shown,” the outlet added.
From there, it escalated as the pro-Hamas crowd went into a lather.
“Otherwise, authorities chased another down Broadway during a brief encounter. 'Free Gaza' was also painted on a police car, and an anti-Israel sign with the words 'No Votes For Bombala's Genocide' was briefly plastered in a restaurant window,” the New York Post wrote. “At least 14 people were arrested, according to police.”

The owner of the restaurant estimated the damage to the outdoor seating area of his establishment at a minimum of several thousand dollars. He hasn't had a chance to fully assess the damage yet.
“It's my flowers that have taken the worst of this beating,” Brian Felicetta, owner of Bird in Hand, told the New York Post.
“He said a handful of people from the community stopped by for a casual dinner after the rally and he suspects some protesters followed the group into the restaurant. He credited police for their quick action and their staff for handling the situation appropriately,” the medium noted.
The owner was beside himself after the crowd descended on his business.
“Nothing really came of it other than us, a small business, a mom and pop business in New York, I'm going to be the one waking up in the morning to fix all of this,” he said. “Myself and my (business) partner were born and raised New Yorkers, we are for everybody, so I don't know what the goal or intent was based on, but it doesn't make sense to me.”

The Democratic National Convention starts on Monday. Hochul and other New York officials will be in attendance.
And apparently, a large number of protesters will be there to greet them.
