Kamala Harris calls on Trump to hesitate in debate amid Biden departure

In a recent turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris has accused former President Donald Trump of dithering on a pre-arranged debate. This comes after President Joe Biden's unexpected decision to step down from the Democratic ticket, causing uncertainty around the debate previously scheduled for September 10.

Ready to step into the debate spotlight, Harris expressed her readiness to the press, saying, “I'm ready. And I think voters deserve to see the split screen that's in this race on a stage of debate and so I'm ready Let's go.”

However, the Trump campaign has shown reluctance to commit to any future debate until the Democratic Party formally chooses a candidate. Steven Cheung, Trump's campaign communications director, expressed concern about scheduling Harris, as Democrats could still change their minds, given that Harris is only the presumptive nominee.

Harris quickly responded on social media, questioning the Trump campaign's previous stance of being ready to debate “anytime, anywhere.” Democratic delegates are expected to confirm Harris as the party's nominee by August 7. Trump, who officially clinched the Republican nomination last week, has expressed interest in debating Harris, but has yet to confirm anything.

Biden's exit from the race followed a poor performance in an earlier debate. He endorsed Harris shortly after her announcement, and she quickly won enough delegate endorsements to win the Democratic presidential nomination. However, Harris has yet to confirm his openness to another proposed debate.

Prior to Biden's withdrawal, Harris was set to debate Trump's running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance. Both candidates had expressed their eagerness to debate each other, but no specifics were discussed. With recent developments, it looks like those debate plans won't materialize, much to Vance's disappointment.
