Another Democratic email scandal embroiled the White House when it launched an investigation into climate czar John Kerry connected to a critical resource.
Embodying the “rules for you but not for me” mentality often attributed to left-wing radicals, Special Presidential Climate Envoy (SPEC) Kerry is facing fresh scrutiny over the his crusade against coal.
Friday, in a letter directed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Kentucky Rep. James Comer (R) sounded the alarm about private communications between Kerry, the State Department and “left-wing environmental groups” in relation to globalist plans to abandon coal production such as the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) which the US had joined in December.
“Since then, thousands of documents submitted to the Committee contain email correspondence, calls and meetings between left-wing environmental groups, Envoy Kerry, the SPEC office and the State Department, including discussions of the PPCA,” Comer wrote, after voicing his concerns. on the possible influence on foreign policy.
In one such email included in the letter to Blinken dated March 2, 2021, a State Department official had contacted the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for information on the PPCA and obtained a response that read in part: “It has helped. to push countries to announce earlier coal plant closures through the qualification process to join the PPCA.”
Last December, in a statement delivered at the United Nations' COP28 climate summit in Dubai, Kerry said: “To achieve our goal of 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035, we must 'phase out coal without slowing down and we urge the world to join us in doing so as we work to grow good-paying clean energy jobs.'
“Together with the Powering Past Coal Alliance, we will work to accelerate the phase-out of coal around the world, building stronger economies and more resilient communities. The first step is to stop making the problem worse: stop building new coal-fired power plants non-stop,” the climate czar added, after announcing US participation in the PPCA.
Comer stated, “These documents raise significant concerns that confidential information related to US foreign policy, energy policy, and national security policy has been shared with these groups, even in unofficial meetings with the envoy John Kerry.”
While Kerry's office had declined to comment to The Hill, NRDC spokesman Bob Deans, whose organization covers China, had offered“Government has a duty to protect its citizens against the rising costs and human devastation of dangerous heat waves, drought, species collapse and wildfires, storms and floods This is what this initiative is all about”.
A deadline of January 19, 2024 was set for Secretary of State Antony Blinken to produce “All documents and communications between or between Envoy Kerry, representatives of the SPEC office, the State Department and the PPCA, including any correspondence confirming the US commitment to formally join the PPCA.”
Additionally, citing another email cc'd to a number of environmental groups, Comer sought “The April 6, 2021 memo sent by the Sierra Club to the State Department, NRDC, E3G, Solutions for Our Climate and World Resources Institute; and… All documents and communications between or among Envoy Kerry, the SPEC office, the State Department, the White House, non-governmental organizations, or foreign government that contain any or all terms Powering Past Coal Alliance, PPCA or coal.
