Here's the late Judy Garland with “Hail to Broadway…”
Oh yes, Broadway; the Gran Via Blanca, the Street of Dreams. Does any other road in the United States have such a romantic and evocative name?
And on West 50th Street, halfway between Broadway and 8th Avenue, is the Square Hotel. It's officially called the Square Hotel in Times Square, but that's a stretch: Times Square it's actually five blocks south; but I'll just put it on the promotional license.
This is the very heart of New York City. It must be very expensive to live there, right?
Right: figure of six thousand a month for a one bedroom apartment.
The Square Hotel is well equipped. There is a Japanese restaurant and bar in the lobby and the rooms are modernist in style with sophisticated furniture, luxury beds with down comforters and luxury linens, flat screen TVs with cable. and toiletries from CO. Bigelow Downtown, “America's Oldest Apothecary.”
Great! Book a room!
However, if you go to the hotel's website at squarehotelnyc.comall you get is a simple warning saying “THE HOTEL PLAÇA HAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED. Please excuse our appearance while we drop into something new.”
Strange! Can an establishment as pleasant as this, so central, have fallen into crisis?
No: the Square Hotel is very in business, but not with US citizens or legal residents. He is in business with New York City. The mayor of that city, Eric Adams, has filled his 141 rooms with illegal aliens.
For the hotel and the city, there are all of them. The hotel is getting easy money from the city and guarantees full occupancy without having to provide traditional hotel services. And Mayor Adams even pretends that he has the influx of illegals under control in his sanctuary city.
And New York's upper-middle-class theatergoers can feel good about themselves. Retiree Judie Rudman, 57, who came to see him “Enemy of the People” by Arthur Miller with her husband and three children, she told him New York Post this
I care more about migrants than theatergoers. If they have a place to stay, the city is safer.

Of course, there are some losers too.
There is potential tourists with one less place to stay in midtown Manhattan.
There are local merchants with fewer corresponding customers.
There are hotel employees whose services are not required by the new minimum regime.
And there are the occasional victims of a mugging or stabbing by resident Venezuelan thugs at the hotel.
What do you get when you mix Close Rikers, Decriminalize everything, defund the police, Raise The Age act, ban gang database and facial recognition technology, bring in unlimited migrants? A teenager was stabbed last night by a gang of 18 migrants.https://t.co/mGNkSFNhRZ

And of course there are (or will be) American voters.
Finding suitable first-class accommodation for foreign scofflaws is now big business everywhere. The Associated Press told us last month about the city of Denver, which is rolling out an ambitious new migrant support program that includes six-month apartment stays and intensive job preparation for those who haven't yet arrived. they can work legally. [Denver makes major shift in migrant response by extending support to six months but limiting spaces, by Jesse Bedayn, April 10, 2024].
In addition to six months' rent, there is also free food and utility assistance, a free computer, a prepaid mobile phone and subway bus pass, English language, computer, financial literacy and workers' rights and help with procedures. for mockers' fake asylum claims.
Meanwhile, up there in the state of maine, the city of Westbrook wants to use private homes and churches as shelters for illegal aliens [Westbrook Wants to Turn Private Homes and Churches Into Homeless Shelters—90 percent of welfare recipients in Westbrook are ”New Mainers,” according to a city official, by Seamus Othot, MaineWire, May 20, 2024].

Wait a minute: Westbrook, population 20,400, is a sanctuary, er, a city?
Is Maine a sanctuary state?
If not, why don't the city parents call ICE to arrest and deport the bullies?
Any government of our country? Biden regime or state, municipal or local levels—Give a flying fandangle about American citizens?
Or about the fair but rigorous application of the nation's laws, duly passed by our elected representatives?
To ask the questions is to answer them.
