James Carville warns Dems to ditch 'giddy euphoria', quickly return to 'realism': 'Come on'

Democratic Party strategist James Carville has warned his party to cut the slack and get real in the 2024 presidential election.

Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday, he said he understands the excitement now that Vice President Kamala Harris is running for president in place of President Joe Biden, but warned there's a lot of work ahead.

“I got to be the skunk at the garden party,” she said. “That's too triumphalist, okay? That's… everybody's giddy. I look at the coverage and it's great.”

“[But] get ready,” he continued. “They're coming, okay? And it's good. Everyone needs to feel good and liberated and everything else. But if we don't win the elections we haven't done anything. That kind of giddy euphoria isn't going to be very helpful for a long time because that's not what we're going to be in.”

In response to Carville, MSNBC host Ari Melber pointed to several swing state polls showing Harris trailing former President Donald Trump less than Biden had.

“There's no question the polling has improved and it's kind of 45-45,” Carville responded. “But it's still the same country, okay? It might just be a different state of mind.”

He added that Republicans will soon “get their sea legs” and move full speed ahead against Harris.

“And all I'm doing is saying, watch out, people,” he said. “Don't go too far. If we don't win this, all that good feeling will evaporate and be for nothing.”

Appearing on MSNBC, his favorite network, a day earlier, Carville made the same point.

“This has been a real mood changer in the party and around the country, but we have to be a bit careful,” he said. “There's about ten percent too much triumphalism, and you know, it's going to be a very difficult race.”

“It will be very close, and I understand that people are feeling much better and are excited. But that excitement has to be tempered with realism, and the realism is that he has a tough campaign, and as you say, he has several things he has to accomplish at the same time,” he added.

Carville also drew attention to the extra short timeline.

“They need to campaign immediately,” he said. “Obviously, they were thinking about it ahead of time, but they have to accomplish, between now and the convention, they have to accomplish what most campaigns have eight months to do.”

Continuing his remarks, Carville also emphasized that Trump commands a boatload of support.

“We also have a closed, entrenched opponent who has a large part of the country behind them who will retreat, and they don't care what's true, what's fair or anything else, and you have to be ready for that at all times.” he said. “And all I say to the Democrats is, enjoy yourself, but it's hard to get ahead, and let's come together and get this done.”

But his claim that Republicans who support Trump are the ones who “don't care what's true, what's fair, or anything else” was pure projection, as evidenced by the time the Democratic Party had spent denying senility from President Biden.

Before Biden's debate last month with Trump, Democrats and their devout media allies had acted as if the president was an infallible, perfectly hearted God who had everything going for him.

Then, the moment the debate broke this blatant lie, Democrats and their media allies turned on Biden, demanding that he drop out of the race and let someone younger take his place. After weeks of fending off criticism, the president finally bent the knee this past weekend.

Meanwhile, with Harris now leading the race, Democrats and their media allies have INCONSTANTLY lied about his record.

Most notoriously, they have falsely claimed that she was never appointed a true border czar by President Biden. This is another blatant lie, an easily debunked lie.
