CNBC anchor Joe Kernen threw cold water on President Joe Biden’s “Bidenomics” in economic adviser Jared Bernstein’s face during “Squawk Box” Tuesday morning.
The Biden administration has tried to rally Americans around its economic policies by touting the decline in inflation over the past year and the passage of sweeping legislation, including the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS Act. Kernen cited polls expressing Americans’ complaints about the economy.
“I don’t want you to shoot the messenger, I guess [Wall Street] Journal and New York Post are entities owned by Rupert Murdoch,” Kernen began. “That’s probably the excuse I always hear. Here’s the front page of the Washington Post, ‘Lie-Bor Day’ and it just talks about how the president keeps talking about reducing the deficit, when in fact it’s going to be $2 trillion, double last year. And the cuts he made are based on cutting from the pandemic level, so it’s kind of fake.”
